Come in and meet the Meltons

The Meltons

The Melton Tuba Quartet was founded in 1987. It is the first and still the only one of its kind in Germany, as it consists of 4 professional tuba players. Through its numerous activities at home and abroad, it has secured a firm place for itself in the music world.

The extremely positive response to the first concerts was followed by a multitude of events. Performances on radio and television, at domestic and foreign music festivals such as the International Tuba Congress "Verso il Millenio" in Riva del Garda, Italy in 1997, or the Army Band Tuba Conference in Washington USA in 1999 and 2006, concerts at the Chancellor's Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival and the Brandenburg Summer Concerts as well as in the sold-out Berlin Philharmonic Hall reflect the Brandt range of the Melde and Tuba Quartet.

Youth work is developing into an important focus. With humorous and informative children's and family concerts, the ensemble brings young and young-at-heart people of all ages closer to the tuba and its music.

Melton Tuba Quartett - CD's

Their own seminars, master classes and their first CD "Premiere" brought the four musicians to the attention of renowned composers. With "Lazy Elephants" in 1995, "Power" in 1999, and "What a Wonderful World" in 2005, 4 CD productions were available by then. Due to strong demand, works written especially for the Melton Tuba Quartet are published in their own series of sheet music "Edition Melton Tuba Quartett" by the Bruno Uetz publishing house.

With the world premiere of the innovative work "Grand Concerto 4 Tubas" by John Stevens, the Melton Tuba Quartet opens a new chapter and presents its fifth CD of the same name, a co-production with the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Finally, at the end of 2016, the current CD "Featuring the Meltons" will be released - by now the 6th production of the ensemble.

In 2017, the world premiere of the "Concerto grosso No. 1" for tuba quartet and large string orchestra with harp and percussion by the Bochum composer Stefan Heucke took place in the newly reopened Kulturpalast in Dresden. After the "Grand Concerto 4 Tubas", this is the second work ever written for tuba quartet and orchestra. Further performances in Dresden and in the historic Stadthalle Wuppertal were extremely successful!

With charmingly entertaining and rousing live concerts and original video clips, the Melton Tuba Quartet has been delighting its fans for many decades and is still planning many exciting projects.

Stay curious about these 4 tuba players!
